We will be climbing a rugged high desert peak for fantastic views on Saturday and hiking some amazing slot canyons on Sunday, experiencing how the power of water and time shape the desert! Saturday at 6:30am we will meet at the Scripps Poway park ‘n ride. From there we will head out to Borrego Springs and meet at the Villager Peak trailhead on the left, just past mile marker 32 on Hwy S22. We will hike across the desert floor for maybe 0.5mi and then hike straight up 1000ft gain per mile all the way to Villager Peak, one of the best views in Anza Borrego. The total hike is about 13 miles and 5000’ gain and loss. Once back at camp we will setup camp, do some tent tours, talk about gear used for backpacking, and have a fire if there are no strong winds. Sunday we will drive over to the Calcite Mine area (left side at mile marker 38) and hike through the various canyons and slot canyons there and do a nice loop hike. We will be seeing the best slot canyons in Anza Borrego, along with mini wind caves, views out to the Salton Sea and more! It's a pretty awesome area, guaranteed to impress.
